Discovery Harbour Skate Trail
Discovery Harbour is ready to kick off Ontario’s 150th celebrations this winter! The New Skate Trail attraction this winter at Discovery Harbour promises hours of family fun!
The exciting new Skate Trail scheduled to open January 13, 2017 is an exciting addition to the Discovery Harbour lineup of events for the upcoming season.
The Discovery Harbour Skate Trail will be open from to March 12, 2017 (weather permitting) with hours as follows; Friday nights – “Nights of Fire” (6pm – 9pm) – Fireworks schedule (weather permitting); Saturday and Sunday Evenings (6pm – 9pm); Saturday and Sunday afternoons (1pm – 4pm).
This unique cultural and heritage skate trail will feature over 1.5kms of scenic trail located on the grounds of the historic site, along the shoreline of Georgian Bay in Penetanguishene. The Skate Trail will be a part of the celebration of 150 years of Canadian history, featuring historic displays chronicling the contributions of the Métis, First Nations and French.
Lace up your skates and experience the magic of skating along our unique 1.5 km Skate Trail. The historic site will come alive with amazing live out-door entertainment; fireworks; ice-sculptures; chain saw demos; face-painting; fire juggling; and more! Meet characters from Frozen, Minions and Paw Patrol.
The trail will also become a long lasting legacy for the historic site and the broader community. The Skate trail will be inclusive, designed to be accessible to Ontarians with exceptionalities or learning to skate, with the availability of skate assist devices. The proposed Skate Trail will spark the interest of Ontario citizens to learn their proud history and culture in a unique, one-of-a-kind manner, while promoting and empowering Ontarians to participate in sports and recreation.
“The new skate trail at Discovery Harbour is one of the many exciting attractions to look forward to as we commemorate our 150th anniversary,” said Eleanor McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “This winter, I encourage families to lace up their skates and come together to experience this scenic, historic and inclusive legacy as Discovery Harbour helps kick off a year of celebration.”
Tasty food will be available on-site hosted by Captain Roberts’ Table Restaurant.
The Discovery Harbour Skate Trail opened on January 13, 2017, with a special ‘Nights of Fire” evening, including a fireworks display.
