Supporting the Arts in Canadian Communities

Year after year Port Stanley Festival Theatre is proud to present Canadian stories, performed by Canadian actors, written by Canadian playwrights and PSFT’s 2017 Season is no exception as we celebrate Canada’s 150th.  This season promises to have something for everyone opening with Leisa Way Productions’ ‘Oh Canada, We Sing for Thee’ featuring Leisa Way and the Wayward Wind Band, followed by Norm Foster’s ‘On a First Name Basis’, Michael G. Wilmot’s ‘Buying The Moose’, Kristen Da Silva’s ‘Five Alarm’ and ending the summer with Dave Carley’s ‘Midnight Madness’.

According to the New York Times, Canada is the #1 place to go in 2017 sharing with its readership that we are “a world unto itself, with cosmopolitan cities, barely explored natural wonders and everything in between.”  The comedic works of our Canadian writers capture just that and their stories will bring the essence of Canadian culture to the Festival Theatre stage starting May 23rd until September 3rd.  Travellers to the picturesque village of Port Stanley may enjoy first star meals, blue flag beaches, luxury shopping and an evening of entertainment all in one stop!

The Port Stanley Festival Theatre attributes its success to its loyal patrons, the quality of their performers and set designs as well as the undeniable community support from local merchants.  This week newly appointed Branch Manager of Scotiabank in St.Thomas, Kevin Stover, was delighted to present the Festival Theatre with a contribution of $2,500 as Season Sponsor for 2017.  Local resident of St.Thomas and former Branch Manager in Petrolia, Stover says “we are proud to support Port Stanley Festival Theatre.  Here at Scotiabank we are big believers in community support.” This reflects the ideals of their corporate vision of inspiring all Canadians to pursue their passions, providing us with new perspectives and experiences that enrich our lives.  “Having Scotiabank return for their 4th year in a row as Season Sponsor is a testament to their community outreach, generosity and love of the arts” explains Melissa Kempf, Theatre Manager.  “We are very grateful for the support of all our sponsors, donors, volunteers and patrons.”

To date along with funding from the Ontario Arts Council, joining the theatre’s sponsorship program this summer are Graham Scott Enns Chartered Professional Accountants, Elgin County Tourism, Vision Travel and Collette Tours as Season Sponsors; Kettle Creek Inn, Studio Style, Wendy’s of St. Thomas, and Russell House Ladies Apparel as Show Sponsors; GT’s Bar and Grill and The Windjammer Inn as Event Sponsors; Family Health Options and McBain Signs as Community Partners; Kettle Creek Golf & Country Club as Playwrights’ Festival Sponsors; Port Stanley Legion and Port Stanley Optimists and The Arlene & Terry Campbell Charitable Fund at The Forever Legacy Foundation as Youth Sponsor, and PostMedia, portstanleynews.com and Coffee News as Media Sponsors.
