DESCRIPTION

Sault Ste. Marie is a city that cherishes its roots; known as the “Soo” you will see a revitalized downtown, an amazing waterfront and a parade of summer festivals celebrating the diverse cultures that make the city what it is today. We are also the gateway to world class outdoors, in the heart of the Cambrian Shield and on the shores of Lake Superior and Lake Huron. Enjoy all the amenities of a modern, urban city, while not foregoing the quaint charm and warmth of a Northern Ontario community. We have been called the Gathering Place for centuries, join us and find out why.

Throughout all four seasons, you will find unique, interesting and exciting attractions, events and activities in and around Sault Ste. Marie.  Just being on the shore of the “greatest” Great Lake – Superior,  provides a world-class outdoor backdrop for all kinds of adventures.

Combining the great outdoors with urban waterfront settings, you will be immersed in rich history at the Ermatinger•Clergue National Historic Sitethe Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre Sault Ste. Marie Museum and the Parks Canada-Sault Canal. Ride the historic rails on the Agawa Canyon Train Tour, and see original Group of 7 paintings and sketches at the Art Gallery of Algoma.

Visit in the winter for some of the best cross-country skiing in North America, plus nearby Searchmont Resort has some of the highest vertical downhill skiing in the area. Sault Ste. Marie’s downtown comes alive in the winter with the beautiful Clergue Park ice-skating rink, and there are also countless opportunities for snowshoeing and increasingly popular fat biking throughout the city.
