Free concerts in the Toronto Music Garden, June 30–September 18
Harbourfront Centre is delighted to unveil its exciting lineup for the 17th edition of Summer Music in the Garden, presented by TD Bank Group. This series features 19 free concerts of Western and non-Western classical music and much more from June 30–September 18, most Thursday at 7pm and Sundays at 4pm.
The 2016 edition of Summer Music in the Garden showcases 67 performers, including 2016 Juno nominees Elinor Frey, Jayme Stone and the Cecilia String Quartet. Nine ensembles make their Summer Music in the Garden debut in a lineup that includes artists from the UK, Sweden, Montreal and the USA.
“Love is in the air this season, whether it’s medieval love songs, a new string quartet by Kati Agócs inspired by Tantra, Persian music inspired by mystical Sufi poetry and dance, or Jayme Stone’s ongoing love affair with folk music collected by the legendary Alan Lomax,” says Tamara Bernstein, Artistic Director of Summer Music in the Garden.

ABOUT TORONTO MUSIC GARDEN
The Toronto Music Garden is considered by many to be the jewel of the City of Toronto’s parks system. A unique and magical venue, the Toronto Music Garden is the only garden/park in the world known to be directly inspired by a specific piece of music—Johann Sebastian Bach’s Suite No. 1 in G Major for unaccompanied cello. The Toronto Music Garden was conceived by internationally renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma and designed by Boston-based Garden Designer Julie Moir Messervy. Opened in 1999, it consists of six contiguous sections, each of which corresponds to one of the six movements of the Bach Suite (Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Menuett and Gigue), where each movement is poetically reflected through in the park’s landscape and flora.
